About

Artist’s statement

My practice explores the fragile intersections between individual and collective memory, examining how historical contexts, cross-cultural encounters, and global influences shape contemporary identity. Working primarily with oil painting on canvas and wood, I investigate time, visibility, and physical presence as shifting and unstable conditions. Through layered compositions and structural metaphors, I reflect on rapid social transformation and the ways perception is continuously reconfigured.

Observing anonymous crowds, particularly within large cities, I construct images that function as fleeting glimpses – moments suspended between movement and stillness. Figures emerge through raindrops, window reflections, shadows, and intense light, creating fragmented visual portals that dissolve spatial certainty. These ghostly presences appear both intimate and distant, engaged in subtle rituals of proximity and separation. While faces remain calm and emotionally unreadable ‘social masks’, the hands become the primary site of expression, revealing individuality and vulnerability. Rather than being treated as passive or purely functional, the hands are given a voice, acting as active carriers of memory and unfiltered emotion.

My paintings merge reality and imagination, allowing images to exist in multiple dimensions. Objects and figures oscillate between concrete forms, memories, and fleeting ideas, questioning the stability of representation and perception. By softening material surfaces and minimising visible brushwork, I aim to dissolve the distance between viewer and image, creating an intimate and contemplative encounter. Through this process, I seek moments of stillness within constant motion – spaces where silence, reflection, and fragile connection can emerge.
